...I am so depressed as I read these comments on Lipitor because I too have just realized in the last week that my severe pain and weakness in my calfs, thighs, feet are being caused by the drug. I asked him if he knew of stomach problems and/or leg and feet cramps as a result of using Lipitor.

I am having dizziness with blood pressure elevation, vision blurring & right hip pain so bad that I cannot stand all day or walk the three miles I was doing for exercise. It was only on August 17 when I ran across the article, "My Life After Lipitor", that I suspected Lipitor could be causing these symptoms and contributed to my mom's deteriorating health.

I have been on Lipitor, Zocor and Pravacol. increased Synthroid to 75 mcg and started Lexapro 10 mg as been isolating and sleeping way too much –Referral made to MGH Endocrinology Clinic appt. Please can you forward any information that you have. He is still suffering from the muscle soreness though. I took myself off for the same reasons as everybody else. I was almost bedridden by December and I asked the Dr. I was curious if others had experienced these symptoms on lipitor
I took lipitor for two years and then read Dr Michael Eades book on Protein Power Lifestyle. We saw a doctor down in southern Ontario and he strongly recommended to quit taking Lipitor and metformin because he said they were the two culprits. She no longer takes this and claims to feel better and tells me I should consider same. This last week I have had to get out of bed 2 or 3 times each night with leg and feet cramps. Suddenly the possibility of it being the Lipitor dawned on me at last and I stopped taking it the first week of April 2006.

Answer: I think if you monitored the liver function tests, it would be ok. However, lipid effects were greater when Lipitor and colestipol were administered together than when either drug was given alone. You were wrong, for me at least, for my cholesterol went right back up to 240. put me on this drug i think the lipitor has made it worse. Doctors can easily miss the connection, but muscle aches may signal tissue breakdown. I still have the shoulder/arm problem but it is getting better. My cholesterol began to rise in spite of the Lipitor. ) My 63 year old wife has been on a max dose of Lipitor for over a year. If your body doesn't have enough new cholesterol each day, you cannot repair and replace your cell membranes and they will eventually degenerate. Fast forward to today, and the symptoms have ebbed and are random. This medication can cause birth defects in an unborn baby. The 10, 20 and 40 mg tablets also contain candelilla wax. I had to double my painkillers just to get by and within six months I was almost totally chairbound my memory was non existent to the point that I couldn't remember the sentence I was talking in. They refused to grow back - instead they started to "delaminate" and flaked off in layers.
...LIPITOR film coated tablets are white with an oval shape. I suspect the only way you will know is to stop it for 3-4 weeks and see if the symptoms abate, then restart the drug and see if they return.
Does the side effect of Lipitor worsen with time.
The muscles in the bottom of my feet and shins are also getting better but still not 100%. My memory then started to slip a little more than my usual-not good for a full time psyc student.

...I switched to Zocor and my painful problems are now gone! I wouldn't advise anyone to stay on Lipitor. Doses should be individualised and adjusted every 4 weeks to 40 mg daily. After the second time I began to think that there might be a pattern. A year ago I played an indoor soccer game and I lasted 3 minutes before an ACL snapped. If either of these bleed, it was difficult to get the bleeding stopped.
Thanks to all who wrote so many valuable comments and brought their words out on LIPITOR - a poison. After a few months I noticed that using a shovel I would get very painful upper arms (lactic acid pains so I thought) also when I did my favourite sport of windurfing I would get pain in my upper arms so severe I would have to grip my arms for 10 minutes to massage them to try and reduce the pain. The every day dosing schedule required a mean of 12 mg/day of Lipitor to sufficiently lower cholesterol, whereas the alternate day group only required a mean 9 mg/day to achieve similar effects. I've been off lipitor for 3 days (swelling in hands and feet getting a little better but still evident). I went to several doctors, endocrinologist, my doctor, cardiologist and finally a neurologist. And they have been researched more thoroughly than any other group of drugs, making head-to-head comparisons easier. I have been to an ENT specialist and my family doctor and took antibiotics for an infection for 24 days. His doctor prescribed Crestor, Lipitor, Zocor, and now he is taking Vytorin, now after reading all these testimonies I can confirm what I always believed, that these medications are making people more sick or actually killing them slowly. In this short amount of time my job as become jeopardized due to the side affects of this drug. At lunch I dropped my fork twice, both my ankles feel stiff and swollen and my vision is somewhat blurry.

...I will praise Lipitor for one thing - The side effects caused by it have scared me in to changing my diet and exercise regimen (when I return to being healthy) so I never have to take a drug of this type again. When I showed my physician the information I had gathered about statins she was very interested as her own husband is on 20mg of Lipitor and had been complaining of memory problems and brain fog! She said she had no idea the two were linked.

But independent researchers say that limitations in the study, which was conducted by Pfizer’s own researchers, gives it little predictive power about what will happen to patients who take simvastatin instead of Lipitor. I told my doctor about the symptoms and he told me to stop taking the Lipitor. Had a bad fall in February and injured my left knee so started wearing a knee brace. I was told, if she had experienced no severe pain in arms and legs, then probably no. I had been on 20mg of Lipitor for about 2. This alone concerned me because I have joint pain from arthritis. Sometimes my feet and hands go numb, especially at night. Well, you guessed it, again they say it is coming from my muscles.

I had a heart attack in April 04 during a squash match.
I had high cholesteral and was placed on Lipitor.
I was bed ridden for five days that time. The main result was no surprise: Taking Lipitor made absolutely no difference in the participants' combined risk of heart attacks, strokes and death. I have been on 20 mg Lipitor for about 1 year now. Gerry

...Developing babies need plenty of cholesterol, so this cholesterol-lowering drug should never be used during pregnancy. I will stop taking Lipitor but I am scared that my cholesterol will go up again. First a sprain in my right Achilles heel area which took about 3 months to heal! I am going nuts thinking I am going thru some type of midlife thing until I was talking to a friend about it yesterday and he described that his father (a very sharp guy) had experienced the same thing and had narrowed it down to Lipitor being taken in the morning. As the weeks progressed, I had so many developing symptoms EVERYWHERE, it was ridiculous. My hands have always trembled a bit but now it's in my head and neck.
